The Companion Solution

Loneworker Companion is the benchmark solution to the problem of lone worker safety, enabling responsible employers to know that their staff have started and finished work safely.

Companion uses the telephone network to provide a 24/7 monitoring service. Workers can call Companion using any phone on any network. No other equipment is necessary.

The service uses PIN identification, voice messaging, check calls and escalating alerts to ensure an appropriate safeguard is provided for employees working on their own.

How it works

At the beginning of a shift or working day, lone working staff use their mobile phone (any phone will do) to log in by phoning a Companion phone number and then entering their unique PIN. Companion will then send check calls to the user at agreed times (see below) to ensure they are ok. Failure to respond to a check call results in an alert being raised (see left)

In addition, users have unlimited access to voice messaging for recording details of their visit, revising their whereabouts etc. These messages can be instantly retrieved by emergency response operators if necessary.

Flexible alert system for irregular schedules

Loneworker companion provides a flexible system of alerts that can be scheduled according to customer requirements. In employee mode, the lone worker is given authority to set the specific cover that they need according to their assessment of the level of risk for any particular visit. Check calls are only generated if later call ins are not completed as scheduled. This configuration is suited to staff who don't work to fixed schedules such as social workers, community health workers, engineers, and vulnerable estate agent staff.

Regular check calls for fixed work schedules

Alternatively Companion can be configured so that management can set check call times to lone workers, based on the scheduled work pattern. Typically check calls are set at defined regular intervals during an employee's shift, requiring lone workers to confirm - using PIN and voice messaging - that they are ok. This is usually appropriate for a work environment with fixed schedules and foreseeable risk eg overnight security guards at a fixed location.
